Thomson to move to Japan?

Reports in the New Zealand press claim that All Blacks flanker Adam Thomson could be set for a switch to Japan. Thomson is currently out of the international reckoning and Hurricanes boss Jamie Joseph expects the flanker to be playing abroad next season.

"Adam hasn't committed to New Zealand rugby so it's difficult to select him. That indicates he's heading overseas," Joseph said. "He's been a great servant and he will be sorely missed."

Racing Metro eye Carter?

Dan Carter could be in line for another stint in the Top 14 but this time with Racing Metro, according to the Guardian. The newspaper claims that "informed sources" suggest that Carter could be a target for the Parisian giants. Carter has played in the French top flight before but it was with Perpignan.

Wilkinson rejects Clermont move

Reports in Midi Olympique claim that Clermont Auvergne offered Jonny Wilkinson a two-year deal to swap Toulon for Montferrand but the offer was turned down. Wilkinson's contract is up at the end of the year and he looks set to either remain at Toulon or hang up his boots. Reports in the French press say that Wilkinson will make a decision in December.

Toulon rule out Roberts approach

Toulon coach Bernard Laporte has distanced his side from making a move for in demand Welsh centre Jamie Roberts. Laporte told the BBC that they were "not in the market" for another centre with the likes of Maxime Mermoz, Mathieu Bastareaud, Matt Giteau and Geoffroy Messina on their books. Roberts has been previously linked with a switch to fellow Top 14 sides Racing Metro and Toulouse.

Nonu to become a Highlander?

The Highlanders have confirmed that they are in talks with All Blacks centre Ma'a Nonu and are optimistic that he will play for them next season. Nonu turned out for the Blues in the 2012 Super Rugby season and has cited family reasons for the move though the contract is yet to be agreed.

Blues coach John Kirwan hit out at Nonu's decision saying: "I am obviously disappointed. The lateness in the decision has really put us in a difficult situation, but we are going to have a young, exciting young team and we'll move on."

Wasps set sights on Doran-Jones?

Reports in The Rugby Paper claim that Wasps have set their sights on Northampton Saints prop Paul Doran-Jones. The England prop's contract is up at the end of the season and the newspaper claims that Wasps, along with London Irish and the Newcastle Falcons, are keen on recruiting the front-rower.

Lydiate a target for Racing Metro?

Reports on Wales Online suggest that Racing Metro are keen on adding Dan Lydiate to their back-row resources. The big spending French side are already linked with Jamie Roberts and are reportedly keen on bringing in fellow Welsh international Lydiate as well.

Rougerie set to spurn Japan to stay with Clermont

According to reports on RugbyRama, Clermont skipper Aurelien Rougerie will turn down advances from Japanese club the Toyota Brave Lupus to stay with the French side. Rougerie's contract is up at the end of the season but he looks set to pen a new two-year deal with Auvergne.

Mitchell in Sale's sights

Sale Sharks are reported to be trying to bring in former All Blacks and England assistant coach John Mitchell. The north-west club are struggling at the bottom of the Aviva Premiership and recently sacked forwards' coach Steve Scott. The Sunday Times claims that Mitchell, who is currently embroiled in a legal wrangle after being sacked by the South African side The Lions, is on Sale's radar and quote 'one of Sale's international contingent' as saying, "We've heard about John's approach, now we'll have to see for ourselves."

Elwood to leave Connacht?

Reports in the Irish press suggest that coach Eric Elwood is set to turn his back on Connacht at the end of the season. Elwood has spent 24 years at the province in both a player and coach capacity and has reportedly taken the decision to step away from the side due to family reasons.

The Rugby Paper says that Bath have agreed a deal with Stormers and Western Province back-row Nick Koster. His contract expires next month and the former team-mate of Francois Louw may well follow the Springbok to the Recreation Ground.

Ulster close in on Caulfield

Reports on BBC Sport claim that Ulster are close to agreeing a three-year deal for former Bristol and London Irish prop Jake Caulfield. He has impressed while on trial at the RaboDirect PRO12 side and reports claim that he will be awarded a new contract.
